Motorola Visit

On 18 January 2010, my coursemates and I have visited to Motorola Company located at Penang Island due to our design course requirement. This visit shows the collaboration between USM and Motorola Company, and we were required to understand the material handling problems faced by the company, and design a solution for them.

Before we go to Motorola, we have visited Queensbay Shopping Mall, which is located near the free trade zone of Penang Island.

At about 2pm, we embarked to Motorola Company. Very unfortunately, we were not allowed to bring any electronic device into the company, including hand phone and camera. Therefore, no photo is taken along the time in Motorola even we were outside the building.

During the visit, 34 of us were divided into 2 groups, with 17 people in one group. That’s caused learning almost impossible as the number of people in the group was too huge. Although is air-conditioned, but the production lines in the company were quite messy. That is why they want to collaborate with us to make the situation better.

The visit took about 3 hours, and we left at about 5.30pm.

Overall, the trip was not a fruitful one, and we end up with lots of assignment and have to learn another software.
